摘要: Abstract Soft-bodied Cambrian arthropods from Burgess Shale-type deposits are some of the most famous and extensively studied fossil invertebrates, but global species-level assessments their biogeographic patterns have not previously been explored quantitatively. Here we use a newly developed occurrence database, in conjunction with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis PaleoGIS—which allows locality positions to be viewed context palaeogeography—to quantitatively reconstruct geographic distribution primarily soft-bodied arthropod species. Further, compare these those co-occurring trilobite taxa. show both statistically larger ranges greater stratigraphic longevities than trilobites. Many widely distributed were likely capable swimming, this may part explain extensive distributions.
