摘要: To conduct the first randomized trial on classical and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) versions of ketogenic diet, examining efficacy tolerability after 3, 6, 12 months. One hundred forty-five children with intractable epilepsy were to receive a or an MCT diet. Seizure frequency was assessed months. Treatment withdrawals documented. Tolerability by questionnaire, blood ketone levels measured.Of 61 who started diet 64 data from 94 available for analysis: 45 49 MCT. After months there no statistically significant differences in mean percentage baseline seizures between two groups (3 months: 66.5%, 68.9%; 6 48.5%, 67.6%; 40.8%, 53.2%; all p > 0.05). There numbers achieving greater than 50% 90% seizure reduction. Serum acetoacetate beta-hydroxybutyrate at 3 significantly higher (p < 0.01); this case acetoacetate. except increased reports group lack energy vomiting months. This study has shown protocols be comparable tolerability; both ways implementing have their place treatment childhood epilepsy.
