Population dynamics of silver biddy Gerres setifer (Pisces: Perciformes) in the Parangipettai waters, southeast coast of India

摘要: Growth parameters of Gerres setifer (Hamilton, 1822) in the Parangipettai waters were estimated using ELEFAN I programme. The asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) found to be respectively 174.05 mm 1.19 year -1 male 170.5 1.26 female. ‘t0’ by substituting L∞ K Pauly’s equation was -0.0817 males -0.0775 females. Instantaneous rates mortality (Z), natural (M) fishing (F) 2.53, while females above values 2.80, 1.32 1.48. results present study showed that exploitation G. is below optimum level indicating scope for slight increase catch efforts.
