摘要: Background Presurgical evaluation for temporal lobe epilepsy routinely assesses speech and memory lateralization anatomic localization of the motor visual areas but not baseline musical processing. This is paramount in a musician. Although validated tools exist to assess ability, there are no reported functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) paradigms We examined utility novel fMRI paradigm an 18-year-old left-handed pianist who underwent surgery left low-grade ganglioglioma. Methods Preoperative consisted neuropsychological evaluation, T1-weighted T2-weighted imaging, fMRI. Auditory blood oxygen level–dependent was performed using dedicated auditory scanning sequence. Three separate investigations were conducted: listening to, humming, thinking about piece. Results All activated primary cortex with varying degrees lateralization. Thinking piece additionally cortices (bilaterally) right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Humming demonstrated left-sided predominance activation activity observed close proximity tumor. Conclusions study evaluating processing that could form part preoperative assessment patients undergoing epilepsy.
