摘要: Abstract Aloe marlothii is a CAM succulent plant which widespread in the northern and north-eastern summer rainfall region of South Africa. Flowering occurs during dry winter months (June–September) large inflorescences attract wide range birds. phenology nectar production were studied three seasons (2005–2007) at dense population aloes Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. Three flower stages recognised; 1) immature phase, 2) male 3) female with extremely high volumes (mean = 248 µl/flower) stage 2, to most avian visitors are attracted. Nectar sugar concentration was very low (12% w/w) 2 when volume highest. Comprehensive data gathered showed little daily variation, despite 24 h temperature up 20 °C. The proved be consistent generalist bird pollination syndrome. A (42 species; 59% resident community recorded flowering) fed on throughout day, but decrease standing crop only evident midday. Chacma baboons Papio hamadryas ursinus foraged caused significant inflorescence damage.
