摘要: Accurately detecting the presence or absence of threatened species is vital for management, and detection power individual sampling methods can vary significantly between life stages. The present study compares six in endangered Macquarie perch riverine habitats south-eastern Australia. In an initial survey 1998 1999, fyke nets captured at 100% sites where was detected; gill-nets 86%; with no other method having >50% efficiency. Most were by (90% 94% 1999), followed (7 2%). A monitoring program one over 7 years returned similar results all years. Fyke primarily young-of-year (YOY) individuals, whereas adults subadults. Boat electrofishing a high level false negatives perch. Future this should employ to adequately characterise population structure (adults, juveniles, YOY), minimise detect occurrence successful breeding previous year.
