摘要: OBJECTIVE: The aim of this pilot study was to identify barriers the taking a sexual history in general practice. METHOD: In order canvass widest range opinion on sensitive issue, focus groups 4-8 practitioners (GPs) were conducted using GP facilitator. Groups shared one following common interests - considerable experience taking, an interest sexuality, large numbers patients from non-English speaking background, rural practice, Family Medicine Program trainee-ship or employment 24 hour clinic. RESULTS: GPs identified including lack time, fear intrusion, age and sex both patient, inadequacy, patient's offending behaviours, cultural differences (ethnic, gay youth) presence third party. CONCLUSION: To improve may need assistance areas: education about practices; initiation with old new patients; understanding how deal their own discomfort use appropriate non-judgmental language. knowledge resources for further information referral. Recommendations regarding minimum strategy inclusion as part standard consultation are made.
