摘要: The controversial debate on the impacts of rising biofuel production food commodity markets is great policy relevance in Brazil. This paper contributes to discussion by applying panel data regression models with fixed effects using OLS. Our dataset comprises annual production/harvested area for sugar, ethanol and five other staple commodities ranging from 1981 2009 24 Brazilian states. results indicate that exerts statistically significant positive sugarcane; negative rice, beans soybeans acreage but no effect areas corn manioc. commodities’ have implications associated prices. Ceteris paribus, puts some upward pressure prices soybeans. However, economic implication these direct land use attenuated due moderate scale any effect.
