Klebsiella septicaemia, osteomyelitis and septic arthritis in neonates in Ibadan, Nigeria.

摘要: An outbreak of skeletal infections associated with neonatal Klebsiella septicaemia seen over a 6-month period at the Special Care Baby Unit, University College Hospital, Ibadan is reported. It involved 12 neonates, and significant antecedent events included perinatal asphyxia, fetal distress prolonged rupture membranes. All babies had septic arthritis ten cases osteomyelitis in addition: multiple joint involvement occurred 50% cases. exhibited severe systemic disturbance isolated demonstrated antibiotic resistance. The epidemic coincided water shortage which affected hospital. probable nosocomial acquisition infection highlighted.
