摘要: We present results obtained when a TEA‐CO2 laser pulse is radially incident on dense hydrogen Z‐pinch plasma. Perturbations of the plasma column are visible high‐speed streak photographs. Spectral measurements indicate that stimulated Brillouin scattering in underdense regions dominant mechanism for observed backscattering radiation by column. The time behavior backscattered signal can be very complex, both prompt and delayed backscatter having been under ostensibly identical experimental conditions. power typically 1–2% power.
