摘要: Following the description of surgical closure atrial septal defect (ASD) in early 1950s (Bigelow et al., 1950; Lewis 1953; Gibbon, 1953), it rapidly became a standard therapy ASDs. Surgical ostium secundum ASDs is safe and effective with negligible mortality (Murphy 1990; Galal 1994; Pastorek 1994), but morbidity associated sternotomy/thoracotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass potential for postoperative complications cannot be avoided. Other disadvantages are expense correction, residual scar psychological trauma to patients and/or parents. Presumably because these reasons, several groups cardiologists embarked upon developing transcatheter methods ASD. The studies King (King & Mills, 1974; Mills King, 1976; 1976), Rashkind (Rashkind, 1975; Cuaso, 1977; Rashkind, 1983) their associates paved way future development ASD device occlusion methodology. In this chapter, history devices will reviewed. Historical patent foramen ovale (PFO) briefed at end chapter.
