Observation of the stratified glow mode in helium/argon gas-confined barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure

摘要: A diffuse He gas-confined barrier discharge insulated by an Ar gas layer instead of a solid dielectric is reported for the first time. It unexpected to observe that plasma attached electrode generated along with plasma. The Ar/He/Ar layers appearance are visually separated dark space and thus form stratified glow. presence mode largely dependent on applied voltage, flow rate diameter helium flow. As decreases from 2.5 mm 0.9 mm, transits glow filamentary amplitude current increasing 0.28 mA 3.8 A. High-speed photographs show ignited at He/Ar gaseous interface, then expands uniformly towards both layers. After front in quenched opposite volume starts expanding periphery electrode, similar discharge.
