摘要: Electromagnetic pulse propagation in optical fibres is described by the non-linear Schrodinger equation. The solutions, or solitons, remain completely unchanged as they propagate along fibre. question we are concerned with is, given an initial input pulse, does it contain and if so, how many. Answering this means solving equation done using Inverse Scattering Method. This method utilises several linear problems which compantively easier to solve - work focus on eigenvalue problem since gives all information about solitons. In Chapter 1, first show that 2 deals and, particular, used equation. In Chapters 3, 4 5, exactly solved for three special families of pulses. We cases soliton number depends upon area only, regardless pulse's shape. Finally, 6, discussed super-Gausslan type produced semiconductor lasers. Formal solutions obtained terms infinite series functions. To calculate exact numerical computations required. present working software code suggestions tackling problem.
