摘要: Abstract The portion-size effect (PSE) refers to the fact that people eat more when served larger portions. This is neither obvious nor artifactual. We examine prevailing explanations (or underlying mechanisms) have been offered for PSE. dominant candidate mechanism “appropriateness”; is, accept portion they are as being of an appropriate size and accordingly. Because do not necessarily finish served, variations on basic appropriateness suggested. also consider some evidence inconsistent with explanation, including appearance PSE in children young two years age. other mechanisms rely norms. Visual food cues may assist assessing but drive intake a mindless fashion. Larger portions induce bites, which increase by reducing oral exposure time sensory-specific satiety. further research questions could help clarify
