摘要: The contribution of exotic plantation forests to the conservation New Zealand's flora and fauna is a somewhat controversial issue, partly because establishment some plantations involved conversion indigenous vegetation. Such no longer occurs within professional forest industry there growing appreciation 'production' land, including forests, protection unique biodiversity. This paper provides comprehensive synthesis information currently available on threatened species known occur in forests. Based an evaluation published literature, unpublished reports, national databases, personal observations we have compiled records 118 classified by Department Conservation as that plantations. Of these species, 16 are 'Nationally Critical', 17 Endangered' Vulnerable', while majority either 'Gradual Decline', 'Sparse' or 'Range Restricted'. We highlight direct indirect benefits various taxa draw attention missed opportunities generated lack understanding 'puritanical' views mainstream paradigm. also discuss potential negative consequences such their function 'population sinks' 'ecological traps'. conclude with discussion future research aim improve value
