摘要: One of the most important goals current and future sensor networks is energy-efficient communication images. This paper presents a quantitative comparison between energy costs associated with 1) direct transmission uncompressed images 2) platform-based JPEG compression followed by compressed image data. computations are mapped onto various resource-constrained platforms using design environment that allows computation minimum integer fractional bit-widths needed in view other approximations inherent process choice quality parameters. Advanced applications JPEG, such as region interest coding successive/progressive transmission, also examined. Detailed experimental results examining tradeoffs processor resources, processing/transmission time, bandwidth utilization, quality, overall consumption presented.
