摘要: Abstract We present a study of the optical properties Gd-doped sol–gel silica glasses densified at different temperatures (from 450 up to 1050 °C) by means absorption (OA) and radio luminescence (RL). The effect post-densification rapid thermal treatment (RTT) approximately 1800 °C is also considered. Room temperature OA RL measurements have revealed slight low-energy shift Gd 3+ absorption/emission lines densification increasing accompanied parallel increase intensities, especially strong after RTT. These effects are interpreted on basis structural modifications matrix removal non-radiative channels competing with emission. Moreover, spectra fully samples display high-energy shoulders 6 P 7/2 – 8 S emission possibly related crystal field splitting state. This interpretation supported dependence spectra, investigated in 10–320 K interval: an intensity components vs. has been observed, which can be as due thermally assisted excitation electrons belonging lower state higher states their subsequent radiative recombination.
