摘要: Abstract In the context where immigration divides political space of Western societies, perceived social polarization as an explanation collective action is surprisingly understudied in contemporary psychology. We hypothesize that more people perceive polarization, they will engage line with their attitudes. Moreover, this effect should be explained by two interrelated factors: identification and efficacy. Perceived shape how important attitudes are for individuals’ self-definition thereby believing oneself capable making a change, which turn triggers action. To test our predictions, we conducted three studies (Studies 1 2 were correlational Study 3 experimental) among mobilized non-mobilized samples countries (i.e., Belgium Switzerland). Results partially support predictions on issues relates to engaging Indirect analyses revealed predominant role identity dynamics psychological processes linked perceiving polarization. These results provide potential explanations strong mobilization emerged since 2015 following so-called migrant crisis. Implications findings literature discussed.
