Proteomic Analysis of the Venom from the Ruby Ant Myrmica rubra and the Isolation of a Novel Insecticidal Decapeptide.

摘要: Ants are a biodiverse group of insects that have evolved toxic venom containing many undiscovered bioactive molecules. In this study, we found the ruby ant Myrmica rubra is rich source peptides. LC-MS analysis revealed presence 142 different peptides varying in molecular weight, sequence length, and hydrophobicity. One most abundant peaks was selected for further biochemical functional characterization. Combined Edman degradation de novo peptide sequencing novel decapeptide (myrmicitoxin) with amino acid NH2-IDPKLLESLA-CONH2. The named U-MYRTX-MRArub1 verified against synthetic standard. amidated tested form to determine antimicrobial activity towards bacterial pathogens insecticidal potential pea aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum). This did not show but it significantly reduced survival aphids. It also increased sensitivity two commonly used chemical insecticides (imidacloprid methomyl). Since research still its infancy, findings first study on derived from M. highlight these as an important discovery lead structures application pest control.
