Arc-evaporated carbon films: Optical properties and electron mean free paths

摘要: The real and imaginary parts of the complex refractive index, n(..omega..) = n(..omega..)+ik(..omega..), arc-evaporated carbon films have been obtained over range photon energies h..omega.. from 0.5 to 62.0 eV. Values k(..omega..) transmission measurements in this energy were combined with values literature infrared soft-x-ray regions. A Kramers-Kronig analysis then yielded n(..omega..). density was found be 1.90 +- 0.05 g cm/sup -3/ by ''sink-float'' method, their thicknesses determined optically. sum-rule calculation effective numbers valence core electrons 4.2 1.8, respectively. experimental for used estimate inelastic mean free path ..lambda..(E) E 200 3000 eV amorphous carbon. Good agreement is between experimentally electron attenuation length L(E) literature.
