摘要: ABSTRACT Objective To compare the incidence and reasons for nonelective removal of percutaneously inserted central catheters (PICC lines) between centrally noncentrally placed PICC lines in neonates. Design Prospective cohort study. Setting A 60‐bed, tertiary‐level neonatal intensive care unit a private hospital Sao Paulo, Brazil. Participants Neonates who were born at underwent successful insertion 237 lines. They divided into two groups, noncentral, according to tip position. Methods monitored daily from until its removal. Data collected medical records. Results Of PICCs analyzed, 207 (87.4%) had their position 30 (12.6%) noncentral The was similar groups ( p  = .48). significantly different  = .007), with higher extravasation group. Conclusion Noncentrally can provide vascular access neonates requiring venous administration intravenous solutions. Many potential catheter‐related complications be prevented by careful bedside nursing. Frequent monitoring is necessary detect prevent
