Occupancy modeling can be used to identify habitat characteristics associated with species occurrence. Additionally, occupancy sampling provide measures of detection probability, increasing confidence in monitoring efforts. Little is known about the distribution and preferences a small population Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) western Utah. We conducted study estimate probability Utah during 2011 2012. made repeated visits randomly selected survey plots breeding period, 84 64-ha 100 2012 recording number adults each plot. then modeled relationship between detection, occupancy, covariates that included distance water, roads, land cover types, vegetation. also for observer, Julian date, temperature, cloud cover, wind speed when probability. Detection was high (0.74, 95% CI = 0.57–0.86) positively influenced by temperature. low (0.27, 0.18–0.39) did not vary year. negatively water (β −0.62 ± 0.31, −1.23 −0.01) percent shrub −0.28 0.02, −0.58 −0.01). Land types plot occupancy. Management actions conserve shallow adjacent habitats or minimize disturbance these areas are likely have conservation benefits where scarce. Because our probabilities were high, investigators involved future efforts achieve reasonable precision limited revisits sample plots. Debido nuestras probabilidades eran altas, encuestas futuras puedan obtener razonable limitadas muestreo.
