摘要: Mitochondria control essential cellular activities including generation of ATP via oxidative phosphorylation. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations in the regulatory D-loop region and somatic mtDNA are common primary human cancers. The biological impact a given mutation may vary, depending on nature proportion mutant mtDNAs carried by cell. Identification precancerous lesions supports their early contribution to cell transformation cancer progression. Introduction transformed cells has been associated with increased ROS production tumor growth. Studies reveal that altered plays role development but further work is required establish functional significance specific mitochondrial disease This review offers some insight into extent mutations, consequences tumorigenesis, therapeutics, future clinical application.
