Estimation of singly-transiting K2 planet periods with Gaia parallaxes.

摘要: When a planet is only observed to transit once, direct measurement of its period impossible. It possible, however, constrain the periods single transiters, and this desirable as they are likely represent cold far extremes population by any particular survey. Improving accuracy with which transiters can be constrained therefore critical enhance long-period yield surveys. Here, we combine Gaia parallaxes stellar models broad-band photometry estimate densities K2 host stars, then use that density information model individual transits infer posterior distribution. We show reliable comparing derived through asteroseismology, apply our method 27 validation planets known (directly measured) period, treating each if it were one, well 12 true transiters. treat eccentricity free parameter, achieve fractional uncertainty over $94^{+87}_{-58}\%$, when fix $e=0$, $15^{+30}_{-6}\%$, roughly threefold improvement typical uncertainties previous studies.
