摘要: stress. Perennial grasses are largely confined to edges of openings adjacent surrounding forest. The distinct vegetational zones shallow soil dominated by annual dicots, grasses, and perennial including some endemic species; these called "glades" in the Southeast. In Ozarks, glade areas typically strongly sloping, so that erosion frequently exceeds weathering bedrock. Soil removal rates vary greatly over short distances, producing a mosaic depths and, thus, plant species with different depth requirements. Plants requirements intermixed or distributed small patches, rather than zones, fire-supporting interspersed among herbs patches deeper support cedar trees (Juniperus). periodic fires kill most woody plants promote continued grass abundance. Because mosaic, studies vegetation (the total mosaic) Ozarks find cedars dominant, shallow-soil plants, endemics, as minor associates.
