摘要: A possible rationale for victory displays—which are performed by the winners of contests but not losers—is that displays attempts to decrease probability loser a contest will initiate future with same individual. We explore logic this “browbeating” game-theoretic model, which extends previous work incorporating effects length and loser’s strategic response. The model predicts if reproductive advantage dominance over an opponent is sufficiently high, then, in population adopting evolutionarily stable strategy or ESS, neither nor losers signal short; only longer contests, intensity increases length. These predictions consistent outcomes recent laboratory studies, especially among crickets, where there now mounting evidence eventual far more frequently than after fighting, post-conflict likely be observed long contests.
