摘要: Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate(COSMIC) electron density profiles are used to investigate the nighttime midlatitudeionospheric trough (MIT). We find that at midnight longitudinally deepest MIT occursto west of geomagnetic pole in both Northern Southern Hemispheres duringthe equinox seasons local summer. The could be ascribable theenhanced depletion caused by horizontal neutral wind. In early evening, eastwardneutral wind prevails midlatitude F region, which blows plasma downwardwhere declination is eastward Hemisphere but westward theSouthern Hemisphere, lying pole. downward driftwould enhance more molecular composition lower altitude. In addition, we first time location minimumoscillated with a periodicity 9 days an amplitude about 1°–1.5° geomagneticlatitude during 2007–2008, associated recurrent high‐speed solar Ourresults shed new light on empirical description numerical simulation MIT.
