"De-coding" Stemness Pathways in Cancer

摘要: The discovery of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) solved the apparent contradiction between large extent human transcriptome and relatively small number protein-coding genes. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) long (lncRNAs) account for majority transcripts with regulatory functions proved to be important players in cancer onset progression. Here we highlighted oncogenic tumor suppressive roles ncRNAs, particularly focusing on how they affect stem cells (CSCs)-sustaining signalling pathways. JAK-STAT, TGF-β, WNT Hedgehog pathways control some major mechanisms fueling cell state, ranging from epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) crosstalk stroma. A further understanding underlying ncRNAs function CSCs will lay foundation developing therapeutic strategies more effective selectively targeting CSC population.
