摘要: This dissertation examines how small Iowa communities respond to sudden events that significantly impact the local economy (economic shocks). I focus my analysis on two specific types of economic shocks: 1.) internally generated and positive in regards 2.) externally negative economy. As these shocks occur, some may retain their quality life where others do not. social capital as a pivotal concept explaining why are better able life. The literature suggests be affected differently depending type shock(s) amount within community. Utilizing longitudinal survey data over 600 key informant interviews found offered greater explanation 2004 percent change from 1994 towns than cumulative effects either shocks.
