摘要: Inversion polymorphisms in the African malaria vector Anopheles gambiae segregate along climatic gradients of aridity. Despite indirect evidence their adaptive significance, little is known phenotypic targets selection or underlying genetic mechanisms. Here we adopt a systems genetics approach to explore interaction two inversions on opposite arms chromosome 2 with gender, conditions, and one another. We measure organismal traits transcriptional profiles 8-d-old adults both sexes four alternative homokaryotypic classes reared under regimes. show that karyotype strongly influences but strength direction effects depend upon complex interactions gender environmental conditions between independent arms. Our data support suppressed recombination model for role local adaptation, and—supported by physiological measurements following perturbation drug rapamycin—suggest mechanism may be maintenance energy homeostasis.
