摘要: 1. ABSTRACT It is well-known that TCP performance may degrade over paths include wireless links, where packet losses are often not related to congestion. We examine this problem in the context of GSM digital cellular network, link protected by a reliable layer protocol. propose use multi-layer tracing as powerful methodology analyze complex protocol interactions between layers. Our measurements show throughput mostly ideal and spurious timeouts extremely rare. The tool we developed allowed us identify primary causes degraded performance: (1) inefficient with TCP/IP header compression, (2) excessive queuing caused overbuffered links. conclude solutions alone can solve “TCP links”. further argue it imperative deploy active queue management explicit congestion notification mechanisms wide-area networks; which expect will be bottleneck future Internet.
