Pancytopenia in nutritional megaloblastic anaemia. A study from north-west India.

摘要: We have analysed 139 consecutive cases (71 males and 68 females) of nutritional megaloblastic anaemia over a period four half years. The majority these patients belonged to the low socio-economic class many them were strict vegetarians. Sixty one percent in second third decades life. At time presentation, 46% had mild hepatomegaly, 42% fever, 34% splenomegaly 20% bleeding manifestations. Of 102 whom biochemical parameters available, vitamin B12 deficiency was detected 76%, folate 6.8%, combined 8.8%; remaining 7.8% normal levels at presentation. All severe anaemia, 80.5% thrombocytopenia 43.8% neutropenia as well thrombocytopenia. It appears that during progression (in terms duration) megaloblastosis, is followed by then neutropenia. Infection may be aggravated impaired functions neutrophils platelets, respectively.
