摘要: The value of routine aspiration a symptomatic total knee replacement before reoperation was evaluated. study group consisted consecutive series 69 knees in 67 patients which preoperative performed. All aspirations were performed on an outpatient basis clinic setting. Local anesthetics and saline washings not used. Twenty determined to be infected 49 infected. Preoperative had overall sensitivity 55%, specificity 96%, accuracy 84%, positive predictive 85%, negative 84%. Sixteen taking antibiotics at the time referral including 12 20 (60%) who knees. Seven these (58%) no growth their initial aspiration. Four reaspirated later date because high index suspicion for infection subsequent revealed infecting organism all four cases.
