摘要: The notion that slip on faults is controlled by the balance between resolved shear stress and magnitude of frictional resistance examined in light published orientations ancient lineations. By compiling data from more than 1500 used 228 analyses, we observe natural fault planes, as well lineations formed slip, display characteristic patterns preferred orientation when rotated into reference frame defined principal axes. These vary systematically according to relative magnitudes stresses determined fault-slip analysis. Furthermore, these are strikingly similar those predicted a model for reactivation which potential equated ratio components normal plane. Our findings therefore make compelling case concept tendency prediction lend support validity methods paleostress
