摘要: Despite the decline of rheumatic fever, valvular heart disease remains a common and important problem. The investigation treatment patients have been revolutionised by widespread availability echocardiography, which provides information about aetiology, accurate non-invasive assessment severity means monitoring progression. These advances facilitated progress in reconstructive valve surgery application balloon valvuloplasty. Improved prostheses reduction peri-operative mortality also broadened indications for replacement surgery. A working party convened British Cardiac Society Royal College Physicians London reviewed current practice provided guidelines, summarised this article, management adults with primary care, district general hospitals tertiary referral centres.
