Tackling delirium: a crucial target for improving clinical outcomes

摘要: Delirium is a common and debilitating syndrome in hospitalized patients, its impact on mortality, morbidity duration of hospital admission increasingly apparent. complex phenomenon, for which there no specific treatment, but research over the last decade has revealed contributing factors, many are modifiable, preventative strategies have demonstrated benefit. This review highlights importance reducing delirium summarizes current evidence to achieve this. Current recommendations focus pre-emptive implementation multi-modal non-pharmacological interventions reduce occurrence first place, routine monitoring using validated tools identify delirious patients early. Potential therapies established remain controversial.
