摘要: BACKGROUND: Trauma system evaluation addresses aspects of the process, structure, and outcomes trauma care. This approach may not identify all opportunities for improvement. Hospital length stay (LOS) represents a meaningful measure resource utilization help focus efforts to improve The purpose this study is estimate expected hospital LOS after determine consequences excessive LOS. METHODS: Patients admitted during 2-year period (January 1, 1993 December 31, 1994) were retrospectively reviewed, was estimated. Excess defined as an observed > or =100% expected. Injuries, complications, American College Surgeons' Committee on audit filters compared between groups. RESULTS: Observed exceeded by 100% more 568 5,226 patients (10.9%), most survived (98.3%). Complications predicted excess LOS, whereas did not. Median costs these $30,315 totaled 30% expenditures entire cohort patients. CONCLUSION: Prolonged adverse outcome. Estimation outliers important method care within established systems centers. Language: en
