摘要: The Bifidobacterium genus currently encompasses 48 recognized taxa, which have been isolated from different ecosystems. However, the current phylogeny of bifidobacteria is hampered by relative paucity genotypic data. Here, we reassessed taxonomy this bacterial using genome-based approaches, demonstrated that previous taxonomic view contained several inconsistencies. In particular, high levels genetic relatedness were shown to exist between particular taxa would not justify their status as separate species. results presented are here based on average nucleotide identity analysis involving genome sequences for each type strain bifidobacterial well phylogenetic comparative predicted core genus. study demonstrate availability complete allows reconstruction a more robust than obtained single gene-based sequence comparison, thus discouraging assignment new or taxon without such validation.
