摘要: In the last years, mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) received increased attention from research community. MCEs exist at depths between 30–40 m and until 100 or deeper. While were already reported Japan nearly 50 years ago, in did not progress as other countries like USA Australia. Nonetheless, over several interesting studies conducted on found southern various fields geology to biology, momentum of Japanese recent years. this chapter, we will summarize knowledge different domains such their distribution, biodiversity, occurrence fossil record, findings reproduction corals, potential ecological role a global change context, threats menacing these ecosystems, future directions MCE Japan.
