摘要: The seismic tomography problem does not have a unique solution, and published tomographic images been equivocal with regard to the deep structure of subducting slabs. An improved method, using more realistic background Earth model surface-reflected as well direct phases, shows that slabs beneath Japan Izu Bonin island arcs are deflected at boundary between upper lower mantle, whereas those northern Kuril Mariana sink into mantle.
