摘要: Abstract Objective . Well-documented challenges have hampered both intervention development and research in teen smoking cessation. Addressing these challenges, the Hutchinson Study of High School Smoking (HS Study), largest group-randomized trial adolescent cessation to date, incorporates several design innovations investigate effect a counselor-initiated, individually tailored telephone counseling for older adolescents. This paper presents discusses innovative features, baseline findings on resulting study population. Method The used population-based survey proactively identify recruit all high school juniors who had smoked past month – potentially expanding reach smokers, even those less than daily not motivated quit. For ethical reasons, some nonsmokers were enrolled intervention, also. Other important features included random allocation schools into experimental conditions (intervention vs. no-intervention control) multi-wave design. Results conclusion address problems identified literature. heterogeneous characteristics population, well-balanced between two arms, three significant implications: They (1) demonstrate effectiveness trial's (2) highlight intervention-related issues, (3) provide assurance that evaluation will be unbiased.
