摘要: Four hydrographic surveys were carried out in Gallegos Sound (54 ∘ 28 ′58 ″S–69 50 ′55 ″ W), a subantarctic glacial fjord. This is the first comprehensive seasonal study for extreme isolated areas Cordillera Darwin Ice Field, Chile. The fjord exhibits strong pattern its oceanographic characteristics. highest values of total suspended solid concentrations observed summer (>15 mg L −1), with lowest winter (<5 −1). Seasonality characteristics significantly correlated air temperature. In spite high pluviosity and maritime climate this region, mountain range creates drier conditions that contrast influences fjords Alaska. relatively salinity surface layer during confirms influence precipitacion on freshwater TSS concentration negligible. As Garibaldi Glacier most significant source basin Sound, ice melting represents main forcing layer. mean exhibit higher comparison to other Chilean are more similar ice-proximal environment an Antarctic fjords. general, much lower than those Northern Hemisphere.
