Adaptive Carrier-Sensing for Throughput Improvement in IEEE 802.11 Networks

摘要: As a Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) network, the performance of IEEE 802.11 networks highly depends on accuracy carrier sensing procedure. However, conventional approaches suffer from well known hidden and exposed node problems, adversely affecting aggregate throughput networks. In this paper, we propose novel scheme through which each station can adaptively select its Threshold (CST) in order to mitigate hidden/exposed problems. The basic idea behind our approach is for Point (AP) periodically transmit Busy/Idle (BI) signal all stations. Individual stations then use BI AP together with their own local adjust CST. We NS-2 simulations show that enhance by as much 50%.
