摘要: Abstract The textile industry is the largest consumer of azo dyes and activated sludge treatment systems typically used to remove them are frequently inefficient, resulting in significant quantities these compounds adsorbed or released into water bodies. aim this study was evaluate biodegradation commercial dye Disperse Red 1 a pilot scale anaerobic–aerobic reactor inoculated by microbial consortium selected for its capacity degrade dyes. Dye decolorization (80%) occurred 60 h anaerobic 92% COD (chemical oxygen demand) removed as measured treated effluent. LC–ESI-MS/MS effluent showed formation reduced bond cleavage subsequent degradation products. Aromatic amines produced were not detected. Toxicity tests performed with Daphnia similis Hydra attenuata that toxicity significantly. Mutagenicity, evaluated using Salmonella/microsome Ames test, found untreated medium only mutagenic toward Salmonella strain YG1041. However after treatment, marginal mutagenicity observed. These results indicate bacterial effective biodegrading also reducing may represent promising application biodegradation.
