摘要: This study uses data from the India National Family and Health Survey–2 conducted in 1998–99 to investigate level correlates of care-seeking choice provider for gynecological symptoms among currently married women rural India. Of symptomatic surveyed 31 percent sought care overwhelmingly private providers (70 percent). Only 8 consulted frontline paramedical health workers. Care-seeking behavior type varied significantly across different Indian states. Significant differentials by age caste religion education household wealth women’s autonomy suggest existence multiple cultural economic demand-side barriers care-seeking. Although socially disadvantaged were less likely than better-off consult majority even poorest uneducated lower-caste providers. Geographical access public facilities had no significant association with whereas only a moderately that choice. The predominance use services self-perceived morbidity warrants inclusion national reproductive strategy enhance its effectiveness. (authors)
