摘要: Current recommendations for energy requirements in the elderly are based on assumed levels of physical activity relative to BMR (1.5 x BMR). The main aim present study was establish whether these might be applicable a randomly-selected group free-living men (all over 75 years age). measured by indirect calorimetry and total expenditure (TEE) doubly-labelled-water technique. Further aims included evaluating applicability variety prediction equations assessed quality life reflected any indices expenditure. mean value daily requirement found 1.5 (89 J/kg per min) but with substantial inter-individual variation (SD 0.2 ; 14 min). bias between TEE estimated BMR) from various predictions varied according which equation used (-10- + 8 % mean) 95 limits agreement (28-30% mean). plus thermogenesis (TEE-BMR) were positively related activities living, no relationships apparent perceived life. It is concluded that, despite considerable variability, national people this age that exists when attempts made estimate measurements or BMR.
