摘要: Bromate removal was observed during biologically active carbon (BAC) filtration. Microorganisms in the BAC reduced bromate to bromide, although formation of other intermediate species is possible. The effects dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, nitrate and empty bed contact time (EBCT) on microbial reduction were examined. Oxygen nitrate, common electron acceptors, hindered reduction. For example, at an influent DO concentration 2 mg/L a filter with 25-min EBCT, by 86 percent 0.2 mg/L, whereas it 76 5.1 mg/L. In general, lengthening EBCT increased removal. Biological conventional ozone-granular activated plant deemed possible if controlled.
