摘要: Continuous media (CM), such as audio and video, fundamentally differ from traditional text numeric data in that they have large transfer rate storage space requirements, real time deadlines must be met during their retrieval. This thesis covers the issues involved designing file servers support continuous media. A rigorous model of requirements is presented, lower bounds are demonstrated for parameters buffer space. The sorting set disk scheduling algorithm proposed, which balances latency reduction against successive read latencies. approach has advantage being a generalization previous approaches (including SCAN round-robin), well yielding improved performance certain cases. Conventional to system implementation analysed suitability CM servers, new, or hybrid, solutions proposed.
