Significance of circumferential resection margin involvement after oesophagectomy for cancer.

摘要: This study examined the influence of tumour involvement circumferential resection margin on subsequent local recurrence after oesophagectomy. Fifty patients were studied: 36 men and 14 women median age 62 (range 44-83) years. Each patient had undergone oesophagectomy at which all macroscopic disease been removed. Pathological specimens sectioned tangentially 0.5-1.0-cm intervals to permit microscopic examination margin. Patients followed investigated by endoscopy with biopsy imaging techniques only if symptomatic. Twenty 50 demonstrated At follow-up 24-52) months, eleven these 20 developed histologically proven compared four remaining 30 in whom was clear (P < 0.01). Circumferential spread oesophageal cancer appears be a significant cause recurrence.
