摘要: Under chronic stress, carotenoid-based colouration has often been shown to fade. However, the ecological and physiological mechanisms that govern still remain largely unknown. Colour changes may be directly induced by stressor (for example through reduced carotenoid intake) or due activation of stress response (PSR, e.g. increased blood corticosterone concentrations). Here, we tested whether concentration affected colouration, a trade-off between PSR existed. Using common lizard (Lacerta vivipara), correlatively experimentally showed elevated levels are associated with redness lizard's belly. In this study, effects did not depend on ingestion, indicating absence for carotenoids. While ingestion concentration, was modified. This suggests lizards is severely limited dietary intake.
